Black and white photographs of New Orleans and San Antonio, both celebrating 300 years in 2018
Two of my favorite cities turn 300 years old in 2018. New Orleans and San Antonio have rich histories, having existed under the flags of many nations. Both are culturally rich, ethnically diverse, and artistically energetic. And, both are also a photographer's gold mine. (And then there's the food—yum!)
If you haven't been to these great American cities—or haven't been lately—this might be a good year to go.

Pictures of New Orleans
I first visited New Orleans while I was a young Airmen in the US Air Force, stationed in Mississippi. I have returned many, many times. It's not the Bourbon Street / Mardi Gras wild life that attracts me, but rather the textural historic authenticity of the architecture, the richly beautiful neighborhoods, the cuisine, and of course, the music.

Pictures of San Antonio
I grew up only two hours from San Antonio, so I have lots of happy memories of school trips to the Alamo and Hemisphere Plaza. As an adult living in the Austin area for many years, San Antonio remained a favorite destination for delicious cuisine, sight-seeing, and old Spanish missions.
