Keith Dotson announces a new set of mushroom photographs made at a short-lived fairy ring

Keith Dotson discovered a ring of toadstools growing in the middle of a grassy field and couldn't resist the urge to document the phenomenon.

It's been a stormy summer this year in Tennessee, and a rain shower brought out this fairy ring in a local park, and Keith thought it might make interesting photographs. His timing was perfect because the fairy ring vanished after only a few days.

While there's a scientific explanation — a central spore grows out in all directions and spawns fungus to grow — we prefer to think of it having a magical explanation . . . like fairies dancing in a circle on this very spot.
In some parts of old Europe mushroom rings were thought to be the circles where witches danced. Old world superstitions warned against entering a fairy ring for fear of illness or bad luck.
