Black and white photograph of the vintage sign for the old Hi-Line Motel along Route 66 in Ash Fork, Arizona. Built in 1936 as the Hi-Line Modern Motor Court, each room had a covered parking space built in next to it - like a garage without a door. There was also a Shell station in the office with gas pumps in front. The modern sign we see now was installed in the late 1950s when the highway was widened and the fuel pumps were removed. That's when Route 66 was broken into divided lanes.

Black and white photograph of Soulsby's Service Station built 1926 in Mount Olive, Illinois is considered the oldest original service station on all of Route 66 that's still in a usable condition. Although no longer selling gasoline, the station displays numerous artifacts and is open to visitors along a 1930 stretch of Route 66. Soulsby’s Service Station was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
