New photographs of Savannah by fine art photographer Keith Dotson
We've been busy adding new photographs taken in Savannah and the surrounding low country coastal landscapes. The new work includes historic architecture from one of America's oldest and most beautiful cities, plus landscape photographs shot near Savannah and new driftwood/fallen tree images from Jekyll Island.
Mercer-Williams House: The house from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
The Mercer House (now called the Mercer-Williams House) was completed in 1868 on Monterey Square in Savannah. The builder was the great-grandfather of songwriter Johnny Mercer. The house is notorious as the scene of the killing at the center of the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
But that's only part of the macabre history of the lovely old home. Two other deaths occurred on the property, including that of a boy who fell off the roof and was impaled on the iron work fence below.
After serving as a Shriner temple, the house sat empty for the decade of the 1960s before being purchased by preservationist Jim Williams, subject of the aforementioned book and movie.
