Photographer Keith Dotson to be featured on a British travel show filmed in the American South

Filming recently completed at an abandoned location in the Mississippi Delta

Fine art photographer Keith Dotson has been invited to appear in a television travel show starring British comedian and television personality Griff Rhys Jones, O.B.E. (Order of the British Empire). The show is scheduled to appear on British Channel 4 and ABC Australia sometime in summer of 2025.

For the new series, Rhys Jones travels the American South from Charleston to New Orleans, with stops along the way to feature various experiences and locations that are quintessentially southern.

He heads a crew of four Australian recording video and audio for the eventual series.

Keith was contacted about a month prior to filming by a Sydney-based researcher asking if he would be willing to travel to Mississippi to participate in filming. While temperatures in November are somewhat mild, humidity was still high and mosquitoes were a real nuisance to everyone on the crew.

When will the show be on television?

Details about the show are still scarce, but I have learned a little bit of early information:

  • The show may be called "Griff's Great American South," although it has also been listed under the working title "Griff's Southern Charm."

  • The program will consist of six one-hour episodes.

  • It will air in the UK on Channel 4 and on ABC Australia, in summer of 2025.

  • It's being classified as a non-fiction travel and adventure show.

Keith's behind-the-scenes video documenting this experience will released in due course, and fine art black and white photographs of the location will be included in the Abandoned Places portfolio as soon as they are processed.
