Fine art photographer Keith Dotson releases major update to his Charleston portfolio after third trip to the city
I've made no secret that Charleston is one of my favorite cities, so it was with pure delight that I recently completed my third visit to photograph the city and surrounding areas, including Edisto Island beaches and historic sites.

Black and white photographs of the old Farmers and Exchange Bank, built 1853
One of my favorite buildings in Charleston is this old Farmers and Exchange Bank, designed in a unique Moorish-Revival style out of two tones of sandstone and constructed in 1853-54. I've photographed it on previous trips when it was occupied as (I think) an office building. On my most recent visit, it was unoccupied with the doors chained up. Of particular interest are the ornate custom iron work window grates, with a fancy floral-inspired pattern.

Black and white photographs of the driftwood beach on Edisto Island
Edisto Island, located 42 miles southwest of Charleston, is one of the Charleston areas sea islands. Its history includes occupation by Native Americans, colonial era planters and farmers, and the enslaved Africans who originated the Gullah culture and language. A few intact structures from the Bleak Hall Plantation can still be seen.
The island includes a driftwood beach which is littered with dead and fallen trees that are there as a result of shore erosion.
