Black and white photographs of withering lotus plants and seed pods found along the shore of a pond in autumn
American lotus seed pods are among nature's strangest designs. With their pattern of large, irregular holes, and rattling seeds, these pods seem like something from outer space. In nature, they stand atop tall think stems along the edges of lakes and in ponds surrounded by lily pads and large, broad leaves. In autumn, the leaves wither and transform into wonderfully tortured and twisted shapes.
