Whichever name one chooses, the house represents fascinating and controversial history. The house was built in 1842, to serve as a tavern and inn on the old Wilderness Road, replacing an older and smaller log tavern that had developed a shady reputation. The former innkeeper was suspected of taking advantage of unwary travelers, even to the point of possibly robbing and murdering some of them. The innkeeper’s reputation may have been well deserved because 21 bodies were found on the property in a cave in the 1890s. From 1947–2002, writer Lucy Crockett lived in the house and claimed the sceond floor was haunted. While no demolition has been started, in 2022 the site was approved as a location for a truck stop and the house and property are endangered and could soon be gone forever.

Archival Pigments Prints on Baryta Surface Fine Art Paper:

Museum quality, heavy-weight, white fine art paper

Baryta coated with a glossy surface similar to darkroom fiber-based prints

Acid-free and lignin-free

Very best archival quality, tonal contrast, and surface beauty

Includes white border for easier framing

Signed in the white space below the bottom right corner of the print

Comes to you carefully packaged, without frame or top mat

Typically ships in 7-10 business days

Free shipping inside the US (Send a message for a custom price to ship outside the US)

Alternative papers are available.

For complete details about the prints and papers, go to the About the Prints page.

Outside the U.S., contact us to arrange a purchase.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1417/3230/files/KDX0750XPreston-CrockettHouseVirginiacopy_f79d0bb2-15c4-492d-8d58-0da08cf2e3f6.jpg?v=1791230265
https://keithdotson.com/products/endangered-preston-crockett-house-on-i-81-in-virginia-black-and-white-photograph-kdx0750x
